The Nature Reserve of Orange County is one of the area’s most popular mountain biking destinations.

An incredible array of landscapes makes the NROC a mountain biking mecca. There are intense climbs, technical treks, paved pathways, and rugged trails. There are backcountry rides and ocean view summits. Mountain biking at the Reserve is truly a choose-your-own-adventure scenario, and every experience is one for the books.

Experienced riders will want to check out Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park, where more than 30 trails beckon you to this sprawling open space of lush woodlands and massive elevation increases. For an epic climb, hit the Mathis Canyon Trail or Meadows Trail. For downhill riding, the 5 Oaks Trail and Rock-It Trail are absolutely world-class.

Cross-country enthusiasts can head to Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park, which also has graded roads for a more stable trek. Soak up dazzling ocean views on the moderate rides Crystal Cove State Park offers, or try the park’s more challenging singletrack trails that can be ridden right into Laguna Coast Wilderness Park. Irvine Regional Park is a great spot for beginners or family rides—start with the 3-mile Irvine Regional Park Loop and keep your eyes peeled for wildlife!
